Title: in which way is it randomly generated?
Post by: kdnator on August 14, 2011, 05:51:29 AM
it is written that spelunky is randomly generated
in which way is it random?

is it like that there are many levels made and one level is selected randomly everythime we play?

or is it like many parts of the level are made and any part come randomly anywhere each time we play?

or is it like that the whole level is fully randomly made by the computer each time?

Basically theres a list of small parts and rooms that are in the games coding, and every time a new level is generated it takes different parts and throws them together to create unique terrain for that level

After that it sprinkles enemies and items about and little "chunks" of blocks here and there to add to making each level feel unique and new

And of course theres the randomly happening "level feelings" where the game will add one of several new things unique to each event

I think that about sums it up, im not as well learned on the code as a lot of people here are, but i think i gave a pretty good description

Yep, the closest answer would be your second guess, plus a little random generation sprinkled on top to keep each part fresh.
